Barcelona is not a normal exhibition city. For two weeks every winter it hosts MWC and ISE back to back, and the entire European build industry descends on Gran Via at once. Labour, cranes, trucks and hotel rooms all price accordingly. A stand that would go up quietly in October becomes a logistics exercise in February — which is exactly why the choice of exhibition stand contractor in Spain matters more here than almost anywhere else.

The Venues — and What Each One Demands
Fira Barcelona Gran Via
The big one, out at L’Hospitalet: eight linked halls, generous ceiling heights and the home of MWC and ISE. Double-deck stands and heavy rigging are normal here, which means structural drawings, rigging orders and hall services all have hard deadlines weeks before the show. Miss them and you are building a single-storey stand you did not design.
Fira Barcelona Montjuïc
The historic 1929 complex near Plaça Espanya. Beautiful, central — and architecturally awkward. Column positions, older hall geometry and restricted access routes mean stand designs have to be drawn against the actual hall plan rather than an idealised rectangle. It rewards builders who have measured it before.
CCIB — Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona
Congress-led, by the sea, and the venue of choice for medical and scientific conventions. Stands here are smaller and more presentation-driven; the audience is captive, so the brief shifts from stopping traffic to holding conversations.
Other venues we work in: Palau de Congressos de Catalunya and La Farga L’Hospitalet. Whatever the hall, the build and installation is handled by our own supervised crew.

What Building in Barcelona Actually Involves
The design is the easy half. These are the things that decide whether the stand opens on time:
- Build-up windows are short and immovable. At the big February shows you may have two or three days of hall access, shared with hundreds of other contractors. Structures have to be pre-assembled and dry-fitted in the workshop, not improvised on site.
- Rigging goes through the venue. Suspended banners, lighting rigs and structures above a certain height are ordered from Fira’s appointed supplier, on Fira’s schedule.
- Access and unloading are timed. Vehicles arrive in booked slots. A truck that misses its window waits, and everything downstream slips.
- Documentation precedes everything. Contractor accreditation, insurance and safety coordination must be filed in advance; without it the crew does not get through the door.
We plan backwards from the hall’s deadlines rather than forwards from the design. It is unglamorous and it is the reason our stands are finished the night before, not on the morning of day one. If you are running a multi-city Spanish season, the same crew continues on to Madrid.

When do we need to commit for MWC or ISE?
Four to six months out is comfortable. Three is tight but doable for a modular build. Below that, February availability — crew, transport, hotels — becomes the constraint rather than the stand itself.
Can you build a double-deck stand at Gran Via?
