RAI Amsterdam is one of the busiest exhibition venues in Europe and one of the most logistically unforgiving — because it sits inside a city rather than beside a motorway. Everything that makes it attractive to visitors (central, walkable, superbly connected) makes it demanding to build in. Delivery slots are booked to the quarter hour, on-site storage is minimal, and the surrounding low-emission zone dictates which vehicles can even approach.

The Venues — and What Each One Demands
RAI Amsterdam
A large, multi-hall complex with an attached convention centre, hosting everything from broadcast technology to marine equipment. Halls vary considerably in height and column layout, so a design that works in one can be impossible in another — stand plans need to be drawn against the specific hall, not a generic footprint. Power, rigging, internet and waste run through RAI’s own ordering system on firm deadlines.
Beurs van Berlage and the city’s event venues
Historic, characterful and used heavily for corporate events and smaller congresses. Heritage constraints mean fixings, loading and rigging are all restricted; builds tend to be free-standing and self-supporting by necessity.

What Building in Amsterdam Actually Involves
- Delivery is a timetable, not a day. Vehicles arrive in booked windows. Miss one and you rejoin the queue, which can cost half a build day.
- There is nowhere to put things. Minimal marshalling space means the stand must arrive in build order, pre-assembled where possible and clearly labelled.
- The low-emission zone is real. Older commercial vehicles cannot enter the city centre; transport has to be specified around it.
- Waste is measured and charged. RAI’s sustainability policy makes leave-behind construction expensive — another reason to build demountable and reusable.
We design for that sequence from the outset: modules sized for the loading dock, assemblies dry-fitted in the workshop, and a build plan that assumes zero on-site storage. If your season continues, the same structure travels on to Utrecht or Rotterdam without redesign.

How early should we commit for IBC?
Four to six months for a custom build. IBC fills local crew and accommodation capacity, and RAI’s service deadlines fall well before the show — late decisions restrict what can realistically be built.
Why is Amsterdam more expensive than Utrecht?
City-centre logistics. Restricted access, booked slots, limited storage and stricter vehicle rules all add labour hours. The stand itself costs the same to make; getting it into the hall costs more.
Can we reuse the stand at another Dutch show?
