Madrid’s exhibition business runs on volume and sector depth. IFEMA is one of Europe’s largest fairgrounds, and its calendar is built around shows that dominate their industries outright — FITUR for tourism, Fruit Attraction for fresh produce, ARCO for contemporary art. The audiences are big, professional and there to do business, which changes what a stand has to do. It is less about spectacle than about handling volume of conversation without falling apart by day three.

The Venues — and What Each One Demands
IFEMA Madrid (Feria de Madrid)
Twelve halls next to the airport, with excellent vehicle access and enough scale that entire industries fit under one roof. Practically, that means long walking distances for visitors and stands competing across enormous sightlines. Height, lighting and a legible message from twenty metres matter far more here than fine detail at arm’s length. Hall services, power and rigging are ordered through IFEMA’s own system on published deadlines.
Palacio Municipal de Congresos and Madrid’s congress venues
Congress and association events, where the stand is a meeting environment inside a conference programme. Smaller footprints, higher expectations on finish, and build windows measured in hours rather than days.

What Building in Madrid Actually Involves
IFEMA is well organised, which helps — provided you work to its process rather than around it:
- Order hall services early. Power, water, waste, internet and rigging come from IFEMA’s official suppliers with firm cut-off dates and late surcharges.
- Accreditation and safety coordination. Contractors must be registered and insured, and overlapping works formally coordinated, before hall access is granted.
- January is the pinch point. FITUR concentrates demand for crew and transport across Madrid; committing late in Q4 for a January show narrows what is buildable.
- Design for distance. In halls this size, a stand is first read from far away. Sightlines, height and a single clear message do more for footfall than intricate detailing.

How far ahead should we book for FITUR?
Four to five months is comfortable. FITUR lands in late January, so realistically that means deciding before the summer break — Q4 commitments leave very little room for a custom build.
What does a stand at IFEMA cost?
Broadly €350–€1,100 per m² turnkey, driven by height, structure and how much is bespoke. Hall services ordered late are a common source of unbudgeted cost, which is why we file them early as part of set-up.
Can you reuse our stand from a previous show?
Usually, yes — if it was built to be reused. We inspect, refurbish and re-graphic existing structures, and store them between Spanish shows. If it was built as a one-off, we will tell you honestly whether refurbishing or rebuilding is the better spend.
