Modular Exhibition Stand Sizes & Pricing Explained
Modular exhibition stands are sold and quoted by size and configuration far more than by design style — knowing the standard size bands and what drives the price within each one makes it much easier to compare quotes that otherwise look wildly different.
3x3m (9m²): the standard shell scheme upgrade
The most common starting footprint at most trade shows. At this size, a modular system typically replaces the venue’s basic shell scheme with branded walls, a small counter, and literature display. Budget-wise, this is the entry tier — pricing is driven almost entirely by graphics quality and whether you need any lighting or storage built in.
6x3m to 6x6m (18–36m²): room for a real layout
This is where a stand stops being a backdrop and starts being a space — room for a seating or meeting area, a product display separate from the counter, and enough wall area that graphics can tell a fuller story rather than a single headline. Pricing per square meter is usually lower than the smallest size band, since fixed costs (design, one delivery, one install crew) spread across more usable space.
10x10m (100m²) and larger: island stands
At this size you’re typically building an island stand — open on all sides, often with a second level, private meeting rooms, and sometimes live demo areas. Structural engineering, double-deck permits (which vary by venue and country), and AV integration become real cost factors, not optional extras. This is also where modular starts to compete directly with fully custom construction on capability, at a lower cost per reuse.
What actually moves the price within a size band
- Graphics complexity — full-coverage printed panels cost more than painted or vinyl-wrapped standard panels.
- Double-deck structures — a second level roughly adds the cost of a second, smaller stand, plus staircase and safety engineering.
- Storage and reuse plan — a system designed to be reconfigured for a different footprint at the next show costs more upfront but lowers your cost per show over time.
- Delivery distance and on-site labor rules — venues with strict union labor requirements or remote locations add real, quotable cost.
Modular vs custom, in practical terms
A modular system at any of these sizes typically costs 30–50% less than a fully custom stand of the same footprint for a first build, and considerably less on every reuse after that. The trade-off is design flexibility — modular systems work within a component library, while custom stands can take any shape the brief calls for. Getting an accurate quote
When comparing quotes across contractors, always confirm the size, whether double-deck is included, and what’s covered beyond the stand itself — delivery, installation, storage, and dismantling. Two quotes for “the same 6x6m stand” can differ by thousands once those are accounted for.
